R.I.P Syrian cartoonist Akram Raslan... Some of us as cartoonists around the world tried his case would be heard... following cartoon is my effort to support him, but we did have no success at all, a living person who just was expressing himself by drawing cartoons died at the end... I am sorry Emoticon frown

Syrian cartoonist Akram Raslan have died under torture at a Syrian regime's detention centre months after his arrest. Raslan was arrested at his work place in Hama on 2, October 2012 and no information regarding him were acquired since then.

According to a Syrian detainee (F, Y), Raslan have martyred circa two and half years ago, when his health status was deteriorated and he was transferred to a hospital where he died there. It was almost the same period where his martyrdom was rumored until it was finally verified today.

Raslan was one of the most brave cartoonists in Syria, his works were known for being very direct in opposing the Syrian regime and its head. He was publishing from Syria through Arabic journals and websites, he stood by the Syrian revolution since the very first day, Raslan drew more than 300 cartoons that accompanied the early developments of the Syrian revolution...

Tribute to Akram Raslan
This week it was confirmed that well-known Syrian cartoonist Akram Raslan died in detention in 2013, less than a year after his arrest in October 2012. His death was almost certainly the result of having been tortured by the Syrian security services. In this tribute collection we have gathered some of Akram’s cartoons (courtesy of Fadi About Hassan) and some tribute cartoons that our cartoonists have made on the news of his death.
