ANNUNCIATO IL VINCITORE E IL SECONDO CLASSIFICATO DELL'EUROPEAN CARTOON AWARD 2020 Il primo European Cartoon Award ha un vincitore: Anne Derenne (Francia) La fumettista Anne Derenne vince il primo European Cartoon Award in assoluto con il suo cartone animato: "Jenga - the earth’s sixth mass distinction", pubblicato da Cartoon Movement. I giudici Janet H. Anderson, Ramsés Morales Izquierdo e Simone Berghuys applaudono Derenne per il messaggio semplice e forte che il cartoon trasmette, oltre che per l'intelligente illustrazione. “The cartoon demonstrates the intensity of the game we are playing.” Secondi classificati a pari merito Joep Bertrams e Ruben L. Oppenheimer. Joep Bertrams con il suo cartoon "Il Vaticano" e Ruben L. Oppenheimer con il suo cartone animato "Lonely Boris", entrambi pubblicati su De Limburger. I giudici lodano Bertrams per l'immagine ben illustrata e il messaggio chiaro e Oppenheimer per la profondità di quello che disegna, la solitudine e la mancanza di direzione.
L'European Cartoon Award è stato fondato dallo Studio Europa Maastricht e dal Premio della Stampa Europea nel 2019; l'anno in cui il New York Times ha deciso di smettere di pubblicare vignette satiriche. Studio Europa Maastricht e lo European Press Prize mirano a premiare il coraggio e la qualità e a stimolare la conversazione sul tema dell'Europa.
Il comitato preparatorio per le vignette composto da Emanuele Del Rosso, Menekşe Çam, Vladimir Kazanevsky, Gatis Šļūka e Thierry Vissol ha effettuato una prima selezione tra i lavori da presentare alla giuria. I giudici: Janet H. Anderson, Ramsés Morales Izquierdo e Simone Berghuys hanno selezionato una rosa di candidati.

Da allora hanno aderito alla Fondazione Agora, Luminate e l'Irish Times Trust. Il premio mira a incoraggiare e premiare il giornalismo di qualità in tutta Europa.

EUROPEAN CARTOON AWARD 2020 WINNER AND RUNNERS UP ANNOUNCED (UNDER EMBARGO UNTIL OCTOBER 1ST 2020, 12:00 PM CEST)
Cartoonist Anne Derenne wins the first ever European Cartoon Award with her cartoon: “Jenga - the earth’s sixth mass distinction”, published by the Cartoon Movement.
Judges Janet H. Anderson, Ramsés Morales Izquierdo and Simone Berghuys applaud Derenne for the simple and strong message the cartoon sends, as well as the clever illustration. “The cartoon demonstrates the intensity of the game we are playing.”
Runners-up of the European Cartoon Award are both Joep Bertrams and Ruben L. Oppenheimer. Joep Bertrams with his cartoon “The Vatican” and Ruben L. Oppenheimer with his cartoon “Lonely Boris”, both published in De Limburger. Judges laud Bertrams for the well-illustrated image and clear message and Oppenheimer for the depth of the picture it paints, one of loneliness and lack of direction.

The European Cartoon Award
The European Cartoon Award was founded by Studio Europa Maastricht and the European Press Prize in 2019; the year the New York Times decided to stop running editorial cartoons. Studio Europa Maastricht and the European Press Prize aim to award courage and quality and provoke conversation on the topic of Europe.
Our cartoon preparatory committee: Emanuele Del Rosso, Menekşe Çam, Vladimir Kazanevsky, Gatis Šļūka and Thierry Vissol made a first selection from the entries to present to the judges. The judges: Janet H. Anderson, Ramsés Morales Izquierdo and Simone Berghuys selected a shortlist.
