Il disegnatore turco Musa Kart di nuovo ingiustamente in prigione! Invochiamo la libertà di satira e di stampa in Turchia! #FreeMusaKart
FREE MUSA KART!
Turkish cartoonist Musa Kart and his former colleagues from the Cumhuriyet newspaper have been in prison since 25 April 2019 (https://bit.ly/2LcsXtg; Twitter FR; Facebook).
After having already served a 9-month sentence in 2016 for being unjustly convicted of association with a terrorist organization, he will now have to serve a new sentence of 1 year and 16 days.
We call for the solidarity of as many people as possible to get him out of prison, just like his colleagues.

Turkey: Cumhuriyet’s journalists on trial, including cartoonist Musa Kart
Context
This text was originally published by our colleagues from Cartoonists Rights Network International.
Cartoonist Must Kart’s trial on charges pertaining to terrorism commenced in Istanbul yesterday. Like all the co-accused from Cumhuriyet newspaper he read a prepared statement in his own defence. According to those there to hear them, Musa’s wry comments were greeted with laughter in the public gallery. He also showed some of his cartoons as evidence of his impartiality, something long-time readers of CRNI’s coverage will recognise.
We present his words in full below. In his jokes at the expense of the prosecutors and their witnesses as well as his allusions to the rhetorical stylings of President Erdoğan and spirited acclamations on cartooning as a vital means of communication it is clear that he is unbowed despite the ordeal he and his colleagues have suffered, recently declared a violation of international law.
Update 25/04/2019 : Musa Kart returns to prison
It is with great anger and sadness that Cartooning for Peace has just learned that Turkish cartoonist Musa Kart, and some of his former colleagues from the newspaper Cumhuriyet, are on their way to Kandira prison to serve their sentences. They surrendered to the police earlier in the day to avoid being taken by force.
Cartoonist Musa Kart was sentenced on appeal to a prison term of one year and sixteen days for association with a terrorist group.
Cartooning for Peace strongly denounces this decision and reaffirms its unfailing support for Musa Kart, his family and colleagues.
Cartooning for Peace invites every associations for the defense of journalism and Human Rights to join the solidarity movement to free Musa Kart and his colleagues.
