WORLD PRESS CARTOON 2019 AWARDS
A caricature of Bashar-al-Assad, a four-hand work of Spanish authors Javier Carbajo and Sara Rojo, earned distinction with the Grand Prix of the 14th edition of WORLD PRESS CARTOON, that opened doors at the Cultural Center and Congresses of Caldas da Rainha. First prize in the respective category, the work was published in the Spanish newspaper «ABC» in April 2018.
The jury awarded the 2nd prize in Caricature to another Spanish, Joaquín Aldeguer, for «Angela Merkel», published in the magazine «El Jueves». The 3rd prize went to «Martin Luther King», by the Brazilian Cau Gomez, published in the French newspaper «Le Monde Diplomatique».
The World Press Cartoon also distinguishes works in two other categories. In Gag Cartoon, 1st prize was awarded to Mexican Boligán, for the work «Reload», the 2nd prize went to « Floods in Venice» by the Portuguese André Carrilho, and the 3rd prize honored «Buses», by the French author Constantin Sunnerberg. Works carried out for the publications «El Universal», «Diário de Notícias» and «Courrier International», respectively.
In the Editorial Cartoon category, the 1st prize was awarded to the Cuban Ramsés Morales, for his design «Cuba Pal Taller», published on the American website «OnCuba», and the 2nd prize went to «The Cause of Fear» by the Turkish Halit Kurtulmus, published on the Dutch cartoons platform «Cartoon Movement». The third prize was awarded to the Bulgarian artist Nikolov Tchavdar for «America First» from the pages of the Bulgarian newspaper «Prass Press».
