Donald Trump l'aveva promesso e nella notte tra venerdì 13 e sabato 14 aprile è passato ai fatti. Gli Stati Uniti hanno condotto un'attacco missilistico in Siria con la cooperazione di Francia e Regno Unito. A dare l'annuncio è stato il presidente degli Stati Uniti dalla Casa Bianca. "Ho ordinato all'esercito di lanciare attacchi di precisione. Il nostro obiettivo - ha detto Trump - è distruggere le capacità di lanciare armi chimiche del regime di Bashar al-Assad".

In tutto sarebbero stati lanciati piu di 100 missili. Secondo quanto riferito da fonti del governo siriano si tratta di una trentina di missili in tutto, una parte dei quali sarebbe stata abbattuta. Il ministero degli Esteri siriano ha fatto sapere che "l'attacco non indebolirà la determinazione del governo di Damasco nel combattere i ribellli, che minaccia la sicurezza internazionale".

L'attacco arriva al termine di una settimana tesa sul piano diplomatico, caratterizzata da scambi di accuse tra Stati Uniti e Russia: mercoledì scorso Trump aveva annunciato l'intenzione di rispondere con un'azione militare all'attacco con armi chimiche avvenuto lo scorso 7 aprile a Douma in cui, secondo fonti locali, sarebbero morte decine di persone. Un'azione di cui gli Stati Uniti e i suoi alleati ritengono responsabile il regime siriano.

Oxfam is desperately trying to contain a growing crisis over allegations of sexual misconduct by its aid workers as it faces a crunch meeting with ministers today which could see it stripped of government funding. After revelations that staff paid prostitutes in Haiti for sex parties were followed by similar reports about aid workers in Chad, the charity’s chair of trustees, Caroline Thomson, said she was widening a review of its practices and admitted “anger and shame that behaviour like that ... happened in our organisation”. The international development secretary, Penny Mordaunt, will meet the charity today after warning the scandal had put its relationship with the government at risk, along with its £34m state funding. Oxfam’s chief executive, Mark Goldring, said he would emphasise to the minister the charity’s contrition and the changes it had made. “I’m going to repeat, as I have done to the British public, Oxfam’s apologies for those events.” In our comment section, columnist Matthew d’Ancona argues that the Oxfam scandal is no reason to cut off foreign aid.

Ci sono anche bambini tra le vittime, la più piccola aveva otto anni. Ci sono poi almeno 12 piccoli gravemente feriti, tutti sotto i 16 anni. L'Isis rivendica l'attentato affermando, tramite l'agenzia Amaq, che uno dei suoi membri ha compiuto l'attacco.

A undici giorni dal voto, una nuova tegola si abbatte su Hillary Clinton. La Fbi riapre l’indagine sullo scandalo delle email. Il messaggio di un giornalista che lo annuncia, viene ritwittato moltissime volte e la democratica cerca di correre ai ripari, chiedendo lei stessa agli inquirenti di rendere pubblico quanto scoperto. Il manager della campagna democratica Podestà però, accusa di killeraggio mediatico e di pescare nel torbido solo per colpire la Clinton.

Grandi menti pensano allo stesso modo

I love this cartoon by the great Clay Bennett published in today's edition of The Chattanooga Times Free Press.

It turns out I came up with the same idea:

Così l’ex segretario di Stato: “Gli americani meritano di conoscere immediatamente tutti i fatti”, ha detto la Clinton. “Lo stesso direttore della Fbi ha ammesso di non sapere se queste email sono rilevanti. Non conosciamo i fatti, per questo chiediamo alla Fbi di rendere pubbliche tutte le informazioni in suo possesso”.

Ovviamente l’avversario repubblicano si getta a capofitto su questo nuovo scandalo.

Donald Trump ha affermato non senza enfasi: “Questa storia è più grave dello scandalo Watergate. La corruzione della Clinton è una cosa mai vista prima. Non dobbiamo permetterle di portare il suo progetto criminale nello studio ovale”.

Una situazione che ha richiesto un intervento più muscolare di Barack Obama a favore della candidata del suo partito. (fonte)
